If you’ve been reading along you saw me rejoice over my
“Photoshoot hair”.
Â
Where did that come from?
Â
It was a gift given to me from God, delivered via intuition.
Â
Here’s how it happened:
I had done massive work to prep for my US Family Tour & LA Photoshoot.
Â
The NIGHT before I was to leave home, my intuition started nudging me to…blow dry my super curly, natural black hair.
Â
Wait. What?! Blow dry my hair.
Â
Backtrack for those unfamiliar with black hair. It’s freaking complicated!
Â
I spent most of my life with chemically straightened hair (“relaxed hair”).
Â
Once I moved to Australia, I made the difficult (read life changing) decision to cut off ALL my hair because there was no one to continue to care for it here.
Â
What a self worth journey THAT was!
Â
What followed was two years of me learning, mostly through YouTube, how to care for my super dense, thick & curly natural hair to keep it healthy.
Â
There are many different ways black women wear their hair, chemically straightened (called a relaxer), natural, underneath a wig, braided or weaved to add real or synthetic hair to name a few.
Â
I was approaching a five figure photo shoot and I had absolutely no idea what to do with my hair so that it would fit the luxury look and feel I wanted.Â
Â
So cue the universe, which tells me to… Blow dry my own hair at 9 PM the night before I fly out, even though I still have packing to do!
Â
The difficulty of blow drying my hair, from its natural state, which I have never done even once before, would be analogous to a white woman deciding to give herself a perm, for the first time, the night before her travel.
Â
Do I listen? Yes.
