Slow Down Your Speaking Alpha!
Â
You talk too fast. Sorry. Not sorry.
Â
Stop rushing your words. Stop raising your voice.Â
All the emphasis is on HOW you are speaking,Â
instead of WHAT you are saying.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Queens Don’t
Talk Fast
Â
Marilyn Monroe.Â
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.Â
Joan of Arc (that’s a guess).
 Oprah.
Â
Because (this is just like with walking…) everyone will wait to hear them.
Â
Rushed speech says the speaker is LESS important than the LISTENER.
Â
That was huge.
Â
 Let’s do a replay:Â
Rushed speech says the speaker is LESS important than the LISTENER.
Â
Look at these pairs
of people and you’ll instantly know which one would talk quickly and which one could speak slowly:
Â
Student & Teacher
Child &
Mother
Motorist & Police Officer
Defendant & Judge
Â
There is a clear POWER dynamic in how fast you feel you must speak.
Â
Same thing with your tone & volume.
Â
An easy way to be perceived as having greater influence AND support your self worth is to slow down your speech, control your tone and speak deliberately.
Â
If you are
near my age you remember the old commercials for an investment broker…
Â
When E.F. Hutton talks…
people listen.Â
Â
Â
It’s a perfect demonstration that we all stop and listen carefully to powerful or attractive people.
Â
Slow Down Your Sex, Spending,
Eating,Â
Walking, Grooming AND Speaking.
Â
You will experience more joy, more pleasure, more
respect,Â
self-love and power when you Slow Down.
Â
This is easy to do and easy not to go. What will YOU do Alpha?
Â
In Joy,
Â
P.S.   I was raised in the North, in a Western suburb of Chicago. We talk… Fast! After I made my way
down to law school at the University of Georgia, I made a startling discovery.
Â
I was a young
lawyer, in court and on trial alone for maybe the 3rd time in my career. You soo want everything to go well!
Â
Just like on TV, we have court reporters that sit in the courtroom during trial, taking down every word we say, either on a specialized typewriter or (old school) spoken into a mask that records
it.
Â
Picture my embarrassment when a court reporter interrupts my TRIAL, and says (imagine this said in a thick southern accent):Â
Â
“Ms. Stewart, Ms. Stewart, you are just gonna have toÂ
learn to speak a little slower if you want a transcriptÂ
of this court case here today”.
Â
I died. Luckily, my heart restarted, and I apologized to the court reporter. Three years of law school in Georgia had slowed down my speech, but apparently not enough for somebody to
transcribe it accurately when I was excited and talking fast!
Â
After that, I learned how to vary the speed of what I was saying, so I could control the judge’s attention.
Â
Just like a master story teller,
I learned the value of slowing down key details
and power of “the pregnant pause”,Â
and let me tell you…this stuff works
