Just Pick A Moment This Week to Give Back A Little
I want you to remember, no act of kindness to our planet is too small. We all LIVE here. No, I don't personally feel responsible for back alleys in Paris or canal trash in New Orleans, but I can motivate myself over this little patch of South Australia I am in.
- Plant or Weed Something
- Water or Rescue a Growing Thing in Distress
My downstairs shower is in a sauna room. I use it for my potted succulent trees. One of my trees has been looking sick and I admit, because it's super heavy and in a corner, I kept putting off investigating. Gave it no priority.
THAT is what we need to change.
Own that you have a bit of resistance to doing a bit extra, even when it's needed, and you can change it.
I made time to bring her out of the room, try to diagnose her needs. She either has a white fuzzy fungus or mealy worms (bleh!). I went to the store and spent money on her cure and sprayed it on. I'm talking to her now too. Started with an apology.
We've also just put in a tomato bush, a capsicum (bell pepper plant), a lemon and an orange tree. And you know what? It feels amazing to see them GROWING.
There are 3 baby bell peppers on her now. My husband I each run successful businesses but LOOK at the joy we get from nurturing a tiny plant.
- Recycle a little more than you usually do
- Pick up a bit of trash that missed a bin
- Walk somewhere instead of your car or elevator
When you take action you can stop feeling guilty for the world. The world won't stop flying and using cars (sorry, not sorry) but I CAN refill a water bottle. Focus on what you CAN do.
If there is something I'd ask the media to stop doing is stop overwhelming everyone with incapacitating guilt. If we all just got a little more sensitive, a little more mindful, NO one person or group would have to take radical, painful action and bang the guilt gavel on us.
Think of your section of the planet as an extension of your kitchen counter and give it that extra wipe.
Play god for the Earth
