I Teach This Over and Over...
We do "one thing the way we do EVERYTHING."
What are you putting off?
The weekly run?
Regular sleep?
Cutting down soft drinks?
How about the coffee you now "need" to get up and be civil?
Here is the approach -> Pick one thing.
Make it an EASY thing.
Do something toward it TONIGHT, before bed.
Years ago I decided to increase my self-discipline.
That meant I decided to BE at the gym at 5:30 am (and yes, I'd been a life long night owl). To do that, I had to SLEEP in my gym clothes.
I literally only had to step into my gym shoes and grab my purse. If I'd have needed to ANYTHING else, I'd have talked myself out of going.
Make whatever you want to do -> Easy.
So if you want to go the gym, pre-pack your gym bag.
Set out your shoes.
Want to sleep?
Set a "start going to sleep now" alarm in your phone.
Want to STOP drinking pops (I'm from the north, "soda" for the rest of you)?
Just skip one pop and swap it for water.
DO NOT spend anytime on how long you've been avoiding it. Screw it.
Just DO something. :-)
