I'm going to make 4 BOLD claims this month and then back them all up!
Â
Overwhelm is NOT REAL
Â
Overwhelm is NOT RANDOM
Â
Overwhelm is NOT ABOUT TIMEÂ
Â
Overwhelm is NOT ABOUT "THEM"
Â
Â
Get ready to get triggered!
Â
-> Are you wearing your "Overwhelm" like a badge of honor? Â
Â
-> Do you compete with the other moms (especially SINGLE moms) in the "I am the Most Overwhelmed Woman In the World" Chat Olympics??
Â
Overwhelm is COMMON because it serves a purpose - to deflect responsibility and give you an "out". It's the emotional place you go into (willingly!) to reap the 'sympathy praise', the 'extra extensions' and the 'your quality can be lower' leeway.Â
Â
I gave up Overwhelm like a drug (it's addictive) years ago. I don't use it in my vocabulary any longer. Â
Â
Look back over the last 3 months...how often have you spoken the mantra of the busy woman, "I'm soo overwhelmed..."?Â
Â
Â
Â
I'll teach you the truth about Overwhelm in bits because it's radical stuff. Â
Â
For this week, introduce the idea that Overwhelm is BS and not real. It's the place we KNOW we'll end up when we put off making necessary choices and let it all stack up. Â
Â
Â
- Do we have a lot of choices to make? Yes.
- Are deadlines closing in? Yes.Â
- Does that require the dreaded (coveted) state of... OVERWHELM? Â
Â
NO.
Â
Â
Stop thinking of Overwhelm as REAL and VALID.Â
Â
Start looking at it suspiciously when it arrives in your life. It's a shady character!Â
Â
What's funny is, it is VERY easy to see Overwhelm as BS when you look at other people's Overwhelm and impossible to see the same for yourself.Â
Â
Example: 17 year old girl is too busy with friends and social media to keep on top of her school work. Shockingly, at the end of term, every class has an exam! 2 days to finals and NOW she is up ALL NIGHT, sobbing about how...(wait for it) Overwhelmed she is! Â
Â
BS. Simply a series of choices she refused to make all stacked up.
Â
Her "Overwhelm" state is her request for a "Get Out of Jail Free Card". If you give her one, she'll never learn to stop putting off decisions (Learned Helplessness).Â
Â
See how easy it is to see for someone else? Trust me. It's the same for you ;-)
