Winning = Being Right = Being Safe!Â
Â
And Alphas love to win because "being right" is subconsciously associated with being “safe."
Â
Â
You see, when you are “right“ about your world, you know how someone’s going to treat you and whether you can get what you need from them, which is a WIN.
Â
You feel better because "being right" gives you more control, which you equate with your “happiness“.
Â
We don’t realize it, but we always want to win because it’s about our survival needs.
Â
And don't forget, that we were all trained as children that we get MOREÂ love when we win!
Â
Example: How your Mom reacted to your "A" on the test vs. your "C".
That A was a Win that was rewarded, that C was NOT.Â
Â
Can anybody imagine a Superbowl Championship football team that doesn’t have any women to celebrate their win with??
Â
To the winners go the spoils has survived centuries
because it is STILL TRUE.Â
Â
Â
So if you’re wondering if you’re addicted to winning, the answer is yes.
Â
You may be able to resist the urge to cheat, in order to win at Scrabble. However, that doesn’t mean that you won't cheat (your own feelings) trying to be pleasing and win approval.
Â
**Can you let someone else be wrong about your expertise or (GASP)
LET someone CALL YOU WRONG without trying to "fix it?"
Â
The addiction to winning comes from our habit of needing to control outcomes to feel safe. Winners control outcomes.
Â
For the next week, notice all the "winning" going on around you. Notice the elation and rejoicing. Notice the resentment and frustration of the losers.Â
Â
Just noticing it will help you begin to spot your own Unlikely Addiction to Winning. Unlikely because NO ONE thinks it's a problem!
